A Note on Print-On-Demand Products

All our customers should know that the new content expansions for the Villains and Vigilantes Card Game are print-on-demand products that are being printed and distributed through The Game Crafter. Using a print-on-demand service has some substantial advantages for a small, independent game studio. But there are some downsides.

Our POD products will only be available through the Game Crafter service. The price point is little higher, and packaging quality is lower than you might expect from a conventional product. The shift in printer means there are some minor variations in the card coloring. The character stands in the POD products are similar, but not identical, to what we offer in our other products. The stands and tokens are laser-cut and arrive with a smoky smell and bit of soot (that wipes off nicely) that you don't normally get with your gaming products.

For some customer these will be deal-breakers. That's unfortunate. We recognize the trade-offs we're making and understand.

The reason we are doing it this way is that we have a wealth of great V&V content that we're excited to make available to our fans. At this time, using a POD service is the best and only viable way to do that. We've been playtesting and playing with the POD version of these products and have been very happy with the both the quality of the product and how they enhance our game. We're excited to have the new heroes and villains prowling our city and flying across the board. We are pleased with the card quality and hardly notice the difference when we shuffle the new cards in with those in the base set.

The POD model has it's advantages as well. It gives us great flexibility and has enormous advantages in terms of the time and cost of making new offerings available. This model may even open up options for custom and tailored products we'll explore together.

Ultimately, we think that fans of the Villains and Vigilantes Card Game will get value and enjoyment out of the new expansions. We're proud to offer them and think you'll have a lot of fun with them too.
